Fujikura Ventus Blue Shaft Review: Why Do So Many Tour Players Use Them?

To offer a tighter dispersion and lower ball spin, TaylorMade launched the Ventus Blue series. Unlike the Red and Black editions of the shafts, the Blue series appeals to a wider range of golfers with its diverse shaft options. From my experience with the Ventus Blue shafts, here’s what I can confirm:

Overall, while most Ventus Blue shafts are excellent on the course, choosing the right fit is essential to get the most out of them.

Fujikura Ventus Blue Overview

With its innovative technologies and meticulous construction, Fujikura has topped all its previous shafts with the Ventus Blue series. It includes the lightweight Blue 5 shaft for slow swingers while professionals can go for heavier Blue 7 or 9 shafts.

When it comes to ball speed and distance, you can expect extra mph and distance compared to the shafts with the same specs.

Why Consider the Ventus Blue Shafts?

If your shots spin too much and you often hit hooks, consider the Ventus Blue shafts to lower the ball spin. It will also help you to hit slaughter shots and achieve your preferred mid- or low-launch trajectory.

I like the different weight and flex options that suit both slow and fast swingers. With their premium feel and tour-inspired profile, the Ventus Blue shafts are mostly preferred by professional players and fast swingers.

Testing the Fujikura Ventus Blue Shafts

There are 5 different shafts in the Blue series and I’ve tried out each of them for my ground testing. I chose my regular driver and 3-wood for my off-the-tee shots.

With each shaft, I hit 5 shots using my Lamkin Crossline grip. The ball speed, distance, launch angles, etc., were recorded by a launch monitor.

My Experience with the Fujikura Ventus Blue

Due to my slightly fast swing speed, the lightweight Ventus Blue 5 was my least favorite shaft. Besides, the heaviest Blue 9 shaft also didn’t provide much control over my shots. However, it all depends on your swing speed and experience with the shaft.

As for the Blue 6, 7, and 8 shafts, all of them were excellent for both tee shots and putters. They not only provided the distance but also helped me launch the ball at my desired angles. What impressed me the most was how forgiving all the shafts were for my mishits and toe shots.

Here comes the real deal. Let’s check out the performance rating of the Blue shafts based on my test results on the course.

Look and Feel (4.3 Stars)

Although I prefer the Black series out of the three color options, the Blue ones also have a noticeable futuristic look. The silver engravings go well with the royal blue color and provide a classy overall appearance for your woods and drivers.

As for the feel, it’s very different from my regular shafts, so it took some time to get accustomed to the Ventus Blue shafts. The best part is that each shaft is incredibly stable at impact.

Ball Speed and Distance (5 Stars)

With their multi-material construction, the Blue shafts transfer maximum energy from your arms to the ball. During my testing, I noticed an up to 5 mph increase in my ball speed.

More speed equals greater carry distance, so I could reach 7 to 10 yards extra with my driver.

Launch and Shot Stability (4.5 Stars)

Yes, all the buzz about tightened shot dispersion and low spinning is true with the Blue shafts. In fact, the Ventus Blue shafts offer the lowest ball spin among all the shafts I’ve tested with the same weight and stiffness rating.

All the shafts have a low torque rating, providing incredible head stability to launch at my preferred angles.

Depending on which shaft you use, you can expect 11° to 17° launch angles. In any case, the launch angle is pretty high, and it will help slow swingers easily get the ball in the air.

Forgiveness (5 Stars)

As the Blue shafts don’t twist much at impact, you can easily hit the sweet spot for your tee shots. The low torque rating and bias core construction allow you to consistently find the clubhead center without even trying much.

Even for my low-toe shots, I was getting a straighter path compared to my previous shaft. Such

Shot Shaping and Accuracy (4.3 Stars)

While the Blue shafts performed extremely well with my driver, they weren’t very responsive or accurate for putter shots. The aggressive profile of the shaft is more suitable for delivering the ball on the green.

Impressively enough, I could hit draws and fades at will most of the time, especially with the Blue 6 and 7 shafts.

Our Verdict on ventus blue shaft review

Without a doubt, the Ventus Blue shafts are excellent for both mid- and pro-level golfers. So many tour golfers carrying them in their bags is a testament to its premium quality and excellent performance.

If you want a stiff and forgiving shaft with low spin and high launch angles, Blue shafts are the right choice. However, for incredibly fast swingers, I’ll recommend the Black series instead.
