Ping i210 Review: Tried And Tested [2024!]
Now, there are reviews available for this iron. But a lot of them feel like they are just reading from the manufacturer’s website, even the videos. That’s why I had to test it for myself.
There is no doubt that Ping i210 is an outstanding product. But the facts that are most interesting are-
- Considering the price and the design, it is one of the best beginner-friendly irons out there.
- Balance of forgiveness and accuracy is best maintained.
- The comfort and feel of the iron is on another level.
- Ticks all the boxes, and the iron has next to no flaws under reasonable consideration.
The real-life usage and experience with the golf clubs are shown below.
Why should you Consider the Ping i210 irons?
You do not want surprises from your club. You want performance every time. And that’s why you should consider the Ping i210.
The designers of Ping put a lot of effort into making the irons, especially the wedges, functional and good-looking.
Another big reason to consider is Ping is one of the four major manufacturers of irons, the other three being Callaway, TaylorMade, and Titleist. They have a history of delivering what is right to their client.
Testing the Ping i210 Iron Set: some of my honest view
We have tested the product both indoors and outdoors. Both ways, it was good. However, it feels significantly better on the course than outdoors.
Tests were conducted with dry ball conditions, and most of the shots played were with the seven or five irons with a standard ball. Other irons had a very proportionate response. That’s why I am only presenting you the results of those two irons. And the results in each cell are the average of all the shots played by that club.
Total distance (yards) | Spin (RPM) | Height (yards) | |
7 iron | 172.7 | 6789 | 33 |
5 iron | 167.4 | 5436 | 30 |
Now, let’s see some qualitative results of the testing.
Consistency
There will always be some variation based on the ball and golfer. However, with a seven iron I consistently got around 150 yards in dry conditions for years.
And you will be able to control every number in the chart consistently. This sole feature is worth a thousand dollars.
Spin control
I can never get to spin the ball that good. But with the i210 7-iron, I was getting around 6000 revs. In comparison, 5000 revs is a decent number.
Distance control
The steel iron club has just the right amount of stiffness to put out the same yardage for the same power consistently. It has very little side spin. Making 150 to 170 yards with high accuracy is doable every time.
Flyer control
I did not get to play with wet balls enough. But it was enough to conclude that the irons also have a very good flyer control. The high lofts have a nice pickup and deliver the total power of the swing.
Launch
The launch is very good. Every time, the irons give you an accurate launch angle proportionate to their loft angle. Even the wedges perform very well in both dry and wet situations.
Forgiving
This set of clubs is reasonably forgiving. Well, not as much as the Ping i500s. But you can not expect a better deal of forgiveness from a classical design like the Ping i210.
Moreover, when we look at the performance, the irons’ forgiveness becomes much more understandable.
Ping i210 Review
I am not going to talk about the spec table. You can check that out on the manufacturer’s websit[1] e. I am talking about other stuff that does not get mentions unless a real person is playing with the club.
Stunning looks
Its predecessor, the i200, was already stunning in looks. And the i210 is even better. It has a clean and crisp look. A very simplistic and classic design from Ping. The satin finish gives it a premium vibe. And premium it is!
Soft feel
It is one of the softest clubs out there. The elastomer polymer insert inside the i210 is much thicker and wider, giving you a buttery feel. And this feature makes a lot of difference.
Greater face contact
The larger insert for the custom tuning port allows for greater face contact. And most of the face is backed by the elastomer polymer. It is not only in the base of the face. Speaking of the base, it also has a weighted perimeter.
More grooves and edges
Ping says these irons have precision machined CNC face and grooves. It also features refined lead edge and sole profiles.
The tighter facing of the grooves allows you more control over spin and distance. It also allows the higher loft clubs to give you better flyer control and all-over wet condition control.
Handicap range
It has one of the broadest handicap ranges that I have ever seen. Anyone from a tour player to a handicap range of 20 can play with it. High or low handicap ranges will have no problem whatsoever.
Built quality and customizability
Other than the stunning looks, the 431 stainless steel milling and forging seemed to be of very high quality. There are customizable shaft, grip, and loft options. All the shafts are hollow to reduce the weight, but the walls are very thick, retaining the indestructibility that ensures decades of use.
My Experience With the Ping i210 irons
It is much more impressive in the open field than hitting from the mats. The acoustics of the irons were much better in the open field. Indoors, the sound will feel much duller.
Now, it has been many years of this iron set. But it is still as bang for the buck as it was.
All over, I would change from my current set of clubs to the Ping i210 even this year. And I will have no regrets.
so, Who is the Ping i210 for?
I can comfortably say that the Ping i210 irons are for the people who are better than the beginners but still have a lot to go. It is great if you don’t need the best forgiveness for i210.
This is a classic design, and there is no comparison with any other golf club for the price.
some Potential Alternatives
The Ping i210 is an improvement of the i200. There is no radical change, and you don’t want it to be. So, the i200 is an obvious lesser alternative. It is also similar to the i500, but the i210 feels much better.
Some of its competitors that come close are-
- TaylorMade P770 irons
- Titleist T200 Irons
- Ping G425 Irons
our verdict on Ping I210 Review
Since the release of Ping i210, it has kept its reputation and raised the bar so high that manufacturers still find it difficult to overcome it.
If you are not a professional, you can get the Ping i210. Other than the irons, you can get the whole set with the drivers and the potters. And you can expect to play the coming decades with it and have a lot of space to grow in.
