Why someone should Consider the Ping i200 iron?
Ping is associated with big, forgiving, high-launching clubs. And the Ping i200 is their first successful hybrid iron.
Firstly, Ping is a well-known name for providing quality with their products. They are so good that you can even get a good second-hand price. But with the introduction of i-series, they have made a true hybrid.
The Ping-i200 serves the new and medium handicap players. They are both stylish and work great in all kinds of situations. And the higher forgiveness begs you to give them a try.
Testing the Ping i200 irons – My 6 keynotes
Like all of my testing results, I am just giving you the average numbers of all my shots. Yes, I omitted the shots that were not that good. Other irons have a proportionate response.
We have tested the iron in both dry and wet ball conditions. These are the numbers from the course. It had similar measurements in-house.
Total distance (yards) | Spin (RPM) | Height (yards) | |
---|---|---|---|
7 iron | 155 | 6800 | 32 |
5 iron | 170 | 5200 | 30 |
Consistency
The biggest plus is the i200s can do a certain thing continuously. The standard deviation is very low. You can get the same range of spin, distance, and control over the ball every time.
Spin control
You can easily do 5000 revs with the 5 iron and 6500 revs with the 7 iron. If you are good enough, you will be able to put even 500 more revolutions on that consistently. And this backspin will be predictable.
However, the side spin is also acclaimable, with 150 to 200 revs on both sides.
Distance control
The thinner face really did its job. There were no crazy long shots. The bad ones were just a little off. You will always be doing more than 170 with the 5 iron.
Flyer control
The toe area of the iron head is coated with a Hydrochrome finish. This helps to have more control in wetter conditions.
Launch
Loft angles of all of the irons were dead accurate. The difference is in decimals. You will not notice the difference in the course unless you mess up your hit.
Forgiving
I have tested it multiple times, both in-house and out in the field. The lower moment of inertia, thin face plate, and other features ensure that the ball hits the center every time.
Even if you miss the perfect spot, you will most probably not miss the green.
A Comprehensive Review of the Ping i200 Irons
Now, let’s see the features and attributes of the actual product.
Stunning looks
The style and the chrome finish are great for the modern taste buds of new golfers. It has been nearly a decade, and there is yet to be an iron keeping the price in the second-hand market so strong. You have plenty of shaft options for the shafts as well.
Built quality and customizability
The material is 431 stainless steel. This has high tensile strength and greater torsional strength. Matters very little when golfing but a lot when you are trying to keep a for decades.
Feel of the club
It is not as smooth as the iron i210 (Our detailed reviews). But it feels very nice to hit. The weight of the head helps a lot here. It might feel heavy at first.
The I series has an elastomer insert that dampens vibration and delivers the full power of the shot to the ball. The deep tuning port and the increased MOI all work together to get that fine acoustics and feel.
Handicap range
This is primarily a medium handicap iron. Recommended handicap numbers are around 12 to 18. However, it was also designed to serve players with high handicappers. And the handicap range also facilitates tour level players. But they might not always be fond of it.
Turf control
As advertised, the club does have a well-contoured lead edge. Nowadays, most of the irons have them. But for the price, it is good to have this feature.
It was smoother on grass and sand. But I did not feel that much difference. However, the wedges were phenomenal, especially in the wet conditions.
My Experience With the Ping i200
Personally, I enjoyed the control that came with the Ping iron. All of the irons from Ping are known for fewer bells and whistles but more of the things that matter.
This time, the iron looks much sleeker and stylish. There is satisfaction in the sound and feel of the club.
Who is the Ping i200 for?
The product serves a very niche category. However, due to the high forgiveness and a wider handicap range, it can be suited to beginners to advanced players. However, if you are on a budget, I would only recommend this for intermediate players.
Potential Alternatives of the Ping i200
The obvious alternative to the Ping i200 is its upgraded Ping i210 version. We have a full comparison of the Ping i200 and Ping i210. But that won’t be a fair alternative. So, let’s check out some of its peers.
- Ping iBlade
- TaylorMade P770 irons
- Titleist T200 Irons
- Ping G425 Irons
These are the four that can compete with the forgiveness and control that the Ping I200 provides.
our verdict on Ping I200 Irons Reviews
A very odd thing about the PING website is that you will have a very hard time finding the i200 iron. Use this link to see the manufacturer details of the Ping i200. It’s the European site. The American one forwards you to the i230.
Anyway, most of the buyers are getting these irons from the second-hand market, and I advise you to do so as well. It will be much cheaper, and these things don’t wear away.
